‘5 minutes with…’ is our interview series where we speak to employees at Moorgate and gain a deeper understanding of their roles and how they got to where they are today.
Today we have Tom Roberts, our Managing Director.
How did you get to your current role?
I set up Moorgate Finance during the winter of 2014/2015, and we began trading 01/01/2015. Previously I had worked in a commercial finance company on an employed basis, but I wanted to do things differently.
What is a typical day like for you?
Hectic. I try to exercise four days in the work week and then have breakfast with the kids. Then at work I have lots of meetings and catch ups with the team, some planned some impromptu, almost all useful! Evenings are mainly about spending some time with the kids and doing bedtime- with some TV in there for good measure!
What is your biggest achievement?
My kids- they’re brilliant.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
Bringing out the best in the team. It takes a lot of time and thought to foster an environment where people can be their best.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Seeing people who joined the team with little, or no experience develop and mature- all of a sudden, they are telling you how to do stuff and that is fantastic to see.
If you could sum up Moorgate Finance in three words, what would they be?
A brilliant journey.
