What Are the New ’25’ Plates?
The ’25’ registration plates represent the latest series of vehicle registrations in the UK. Each plate follows a specific format: two letters identifying the registration location, followed by two digits indicating the year and half-year period the vehicle was registered and ending in three random letters. For example, the plate ‘KM25MOR’ would indicate a vehicle registered in Northampton between 1st March 2025 and 31st August 2025.
When Are the New ’25’ Plates Available?
The ’25’ plates will be available from the 1st March 2025. Every year, the DVLA releases two sets of registration plates—one in March and another in September.
How Do the DVLA Issue the New ’25’ Plates?
The DVLA is responsible for issuing UK registration plates. Whether it’s for a first-time registration or a transfer of ownership, the DVLA assigns plates based on the established format. From March 1, 2025, anyone registering a new vehicle will receive a plate with the ‘25’ identifier.
What Are the Rules for Displaying the New ‘25’ Plates?
Here are the key rules for the new ‘25’ plates:
- Eligibility: Only vehicles registered from March 1, 2025, onward are eligible for the ‘25’ plates.
- Display: Plates must be clearly visible and meet DVLA specifications for font and spacing.
- Customisation: While you can personalize your plate, it must still adhere to DVLA formatting rules.
- Transferability: Plates can be transferred to different vehicles as long as the proper documentation and fees are submitted to the DVLA.
