‘5 minutes with…’ is our interview series where we speak to employees at Moorgate and gain a deeper understanding of their roles and how they got to where they are today.
Today we have Katie Gilding, our Assistant Finance and Operations Manager.
How did you get to your current role?
After I had completed sixth form, I joined Moorgate Finance as an apprentice under the Kickstart Scheme. My original plan was to go to university, however after working at Moorgate I decided to stay and fulfil a career in finance. I was an apprentice for nine months, after which I progressed into a Finance Support Administrator role for eleven months. I was then promoted to Senior Finance Support Administrator and then after a year and seven months I began my current role of Assistant Finance and Operations Manager.

What is a typical day like for you?
My role at Moorgate is dynamic, with each day bringing something different. My key responsibilities are managing and maintaining the businesses accounts including preparation of month-end financials. In addition to this, I onboard ARs for the Moorgate Broker Network and our internal sales introducers, support reviewing and refining our internal policies and identify areas for improvement.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
One of the most challenging aspects of my role is managing my time whilst working full time and working towards my ACCA Accountancy exams. Balancing both can sometimes be difficult; however, I have developed strong time management skills which allow me to effectively plan and organize my schedule to handle both responsibilities successfully.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
One of the most fulfilling parts of my role is seeing a project through from start to finish. I also enjoy the challenge of analysing existing systems to spot opportunities for improvement and making meaningful changes that enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.
If you could sum up Moorgate in three words, what would they be?
Dynamic, enjoyable and growth-orientated.
