Against the Odds: Delivering £380,000 Asset Funding for a Non-Profitable Haulier

A haulage and plant service company approached Moorgate looking to fund a high-value, specialist vehicle that would play a key role in winning new work. Despite financial challenges, they needed a funding partner who could see the bigger picture.

The Highlights

✅ Beat the manufacturer’s finance proposal with more competitive monthly payments

✅ Structured a deal for a non-profitable business by clearly demonstrating future revenue generation

✅ Included a 4-month VAT deferral to support cash flow from day one

✅ Attended handover in person to complete asset inspection and build a strong client relationship

The Challenge

The customer required £380,000 in funding for a Scania tractor unit fitted with a 360-degree crane, a highly specialised, self-generating asset. However, the deal came with multiple hurdles. The business was currently non-profitable, which made lender appetite more limited and required a strong case to be built around future sustainability.

In addition, we were competing directly against the vehicle manufacturer’s own finance provider, who already had a natural advantage as the supplying dealer. This meant we not only had to secure approval in a more complex credit scenario but also deliver a more competitive and flexible funding package.

The Solution

Moorgate Finance worked closely with our panel of lenders to present a clear and compelling case, focusing on how the asset would directly generate revenue and support the business in returning to profitability. By evidencing upcoming work and the earning potential of the vehicle, we were able to gain lender confidence despite the current financial position.

We were able to successfully structure a funding solution that not only secured approval but also beat the manufacturers finance offer on monthly repayments. To further support the client’s cash flow during the early stages, we also arranged a 4-month VAT deferral, giving the business valuable breathing space while the asset began to generate income.

Beyond the finance itself, we strengthened the relationship by attending the Scania Sheffield in person. This allowed us to not only carry out the asset inspection but build a stronger face-to-face connection with the client.
