Carr-Taylor have been producing award-winning wines since 1971, driven by a true ambition to plant a successful vineyard. After purchasing 21-acres of land surrounding their family home in East Sussex, things got underway. Starting with 8 grapes back in the 70’s, the family run business later purchased
another 16 acres upping their grape varieties to a total of 13.

As business continues to grow, Carr-Taylor needed to upgrade their machinery to keep up with demand. Their previous bottling machine required staff to be present, therefore limiting the amount of bottling that could take place to working hours. To maximise on bottling potential, the business decided it was time to invest in an automated machine ready for the new harvest, as well as a new crop sprayer. After an initially good start, the business faced some unforeseen issues with the dealer of the machinery and turned to Moorgate Finance.
Moorgate were keen to arrange a site visit to understand the issues further, and in doing so we could see just how much bottling had been held up due to the delay in the new machine delivery. We also had visibility of a sample vine that proved the need for a new sprayer urgently.
We quickly jumped on the issues and began to arrange the funding.
We are pleased to say that we achieved the financials to have a new bottling machine delivered out of storage from Italy as well as the new crop sprayer. As a result, the new bottler alone will help the business to generate over £1m in revenue from the wine being bottled.
The deal was a VAT-only deposit, involved arranging payment to a foreign supplier and securing affordable monthly payments.
